Episode 33: Create a Sense of Security with Routine and Structure

Season #1 Episode #33

Creating a daily routine can give you a sense of safety and security in your life.

I'm talking about creating routines for yourself because Empaths can be susceptible to decision fatigue, chaos, and get into the fight, flight, freeze mode if we’re not careful.

As a sensitive person, you can have many different experiences during the day that include thoughts, emotions, and inspirations.

Creating a predictable environment can feel very centering and grounding (which is something that empaths crave).

Examples:

  • Waking up at a certain hour every day
  • Eating regular meals
  • Giving yourself balanced time for work, play, movement, and meditation each week.

This gives you a nice framework that doesn’t have to make you feel trapped.

On the other hand, if your schedule is chaotic, if you find yourself spending too much time socializing (which can be draining for empaths), OR too much time alone, you can start to feel an imbalance.

When I’m “in the zone” with work or other activities, I feel like I’m in this timeless sweet spot. Work feels effortless. That’s why I love to have a daily structure that’s not too tight and not too loose.

I go to bed at the same time, eat at the same time, and work in the same spot. Even my doggies know what happens where. They like having a routine, too!

Having this type of structure lets me stay open to my own creativity and I’m noticing that my distractions are fewer when I have a structure to my day and week.

What can you do? I have some suggestions:

  • Spend time journaling about the daily structure that feels good to you.
    • Write down how you feel when you get enough sleep
    • What meals (and when) feel the best for your body
    • When do you work most efficiently and effectively?
    • What times of day are you less likely to get distracted?
    • When do you like to meditate? AM? PM? Both?
  • Under-schedule your days
  • Focus on “routines” that give you enough structure and allows you to be just a bit spontaneous.

If you enjoy this episode and it inspired you in some way, I'd love to hear about it and know your biggest takeaway.
